The (obvious) advantage of being an au pair is that it is a live-in position. So you do not pay for your accomodation. But as a live-in position you end up working more than the 20 hours per week intially promised ; and in some cases the live-in position can result in doing housework (cleaning...). The rate of pay is also very low and not sufficient to support a lifestyle in Paris.
When working as a baby-speaker you do not live with the family/families you work for, giving you a more free lifestyle. And you get paid by the hour.
We recommend different French language courses in Paris which you can find a list of; more details on Alliance Francaise Paris and on Sorbonne French courses.
You will find here a list of tips & websites to help you find an accomodation in France
